This is the original image, which is hand drawn marbling texture threaded with gold highlights. I created this in Procreate on the ipad. It's size is 4500x3000 pixels @ 300 dpi. I make them around this size for the microstock agencies.
Spoonflower requires a dpi of 150 so I used a blank template 3000x2000 pixels @ 150 dpi and moved the original over the top of it. In this case, because of the pattern, it didn't matter too much about the fit. Flatten image.
Duplicate the layer and go to filter>other>offset>repeat edge pixels.
The horizontal and vertical pixels must be half each edge, eg for a 3000x2000 pixels image the horizonal pixels right would 1500, and the vertical pixels down would be 1000. This is one of the reasons I always overlay the image onto a blank document (apart from the dpi), because an odd numbered side will throw the repeat out ever so slightly.
And that is basically it. I sometimes duplicate the corner interest and insert it in the blank square, and I love to play around with the colors. The pattern size can be made smaller in Spoonflower if you wish. Sometimes I will create another blank of the same size and divide it into four using view>guides>new guide with horizonal and verticals at 50%. I then place in the finished designed and copy/past/move from there, ensuring there are no white lines between.
